Motambo

The owner of the boat which trafficked the chimpanzee, named Motambo, has attempted to exploit high level contacts in the government in order to corrupt the legal proceedings. His attempts failed, and the case is currently ongoing. The last hearing was yesterday, 8 Novemeber, in the Tribunal de Grande Instance de Brazzaville.

Despite serious injuries, a rapid response from the Tchimpounga Chimpanzee Rehabilitation Center saved Motambo’s life. He was swiftly transferred by the Ministry of Forest Economy and Sustainable Development to the chimp sanctuary where he has been recovering since (see video below).
